Journalism Program

The Journalism Program was established in April 2016 to promote writing among children interested in the world's most important topics. Program volunteers will work with children to understand the fundamentals of journalism, interviewing, and digital media and to create thought provoking pieces on community news and events, profile stories, poetry and blogs. The program encourages young writers to share interesting discussions they have had with people in the local news. The long-term goal of the Program is to use writing to organize ideas and develop grammatical skills and publish works online. The interactions between volunteers and children range from Skype sessions, where writing pieces are shared orally and discussed, to a written curriculum with various topics, feedback, and deadlines. The Journalism Program is managed by SOAR-Washington DC Metro.
