Thanks to SOAR Brussels, 20 participants from Vanadzor Orphanage, Orran Day Care, and Gyumri Social Childcare Center were able to participate in the international Festival of Bard Songs “Sail of Hope 2017” which took place on one of the most beautiful coasts of Lake Sevan.

The children were really excited to meet many well known Armenian Bard Singers including Ruben Hakhverdyan and Armine Hayrapetyan, as well as being showered with attention from the festival organizers. They were able to go swimming in Lake Sevan which was exciting for many of the children who had never been there before.

April 22, 2017

On April 22, Talar Herculian Coursey, SOAR Salt Lake City chapter president, ran in the Salt Lake City Half Marathon in honor of her father and raising $10,000 for Armenian orphans in Syria and Lebanon through SOAR.

Her father, Mardig Herculian, was from Anjar, Lebanon and died there unexpectedly in 2006 at age 67. He still had so much life left in him, even on his deathbed, but since the country was in the middle of a war, there was no medical care available nor does Talar's family have a cause of death. Talar is forever grateful that she was at his bedside during his final moments in Anjar because it wasn't easy to get there. In less than a day, she had to find tickets to Damascus, without a Visa and get across the bombed border to Lebanon, to get to her father. But with God's grace and determination, Talar made it there with her mom and brother so that her father would not die alone.

December 2017

On December 3, 2017, SOAR Ventura chapter held its annual Holiday Brunch fundraiser aimed to raise funds for the repair of the Tsaghgadzor Summer Camp kitchen and Cafeteria. We are thrilled to share with you that the event was very well attended and supported by our long time friends and partners. As in May of this year, when SOAR VC celebrated Mother Arousiag’s visit at the Mother’s Day event, SOAR Ventura Chapter members and volunteers (including the junior chapter) poured their hearts into making this Holiday Brunch event equally meaningful, beautiful, and successful. We were able to raise the awareness of the conditions and needs of the children who attend the summer camp to our guests. The video clip stirred a lot of emotions and guests walked away inspired by the amazing selfless dedication that Mother Arousiag and her staff have for the future generation. Special thanks to Mister X (Arthur Hakobyan) and Dancesport studios (Natella Devitskaya-Roman Drobotov) and the dance students who amazed us by their amazing performances.

On behalf of SOAR Ventura Board and its amazing supporters, $35,000 fund distributions were made for 2017:
OLA Tsaghgadzor summer camp kitchen and cafeteria renovation, Humanitarian relief to Bird’s Nest orphanage in Beirut, Lebanon, as well as Six Xmas parties for the following orphanages: OLA Kanaker, S.O. Kach-Aleppo, 2 schools in Artsakh, Javakh, Nansen and Child Sponsorship of a special needs child by the SOAR VC juniors.

We are grateful to SOAR VC Board, VC juniors, Main Event Sponsors, Long Time Friends and Supporters for their unwavering dedication and support of the orphans we aim to help.

Warmest wishes from all of us for a Peaceful Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
