SOAR - Oklahoma
Oklahoma joined the SOAR family in December 2024. There are several connections between Armenians and Oklahoma. Oklahoma was a key supporter of the American-led Near East Relief Pro (NER) campaign to help victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. The NER headquarters were located in Oklahoma City’s 409 Grain Exchange Building, and the Oklahoma NER Committee raised $300,000 to help the refugees and orphans. In 1990, the Oklahoma State Legislature declared April 24th as Armenian Remembrance Day to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Armenian genocide. The Armenian American Cultural Society of Tulsa, an educational organization, is headquartered in Tulsa, while Armeniafest, is a family gathering where attendees share their culture, stories, and dances.
